    Position Overview

    Bread Alone Managers are hands-on leaders who ensure their departments run safely, smoothly, and efficiently, consistently upholding our Purpose, Values, and Culture. They actively work alongside their teams to train, mentor, drive continuous process improvement, anticipate challenges, and solve problems.

    Managers mentor and empower Supervisors in developing leadership skills, building strong team cohesion, and enhancing practical baking skills and techniques. Supervisors and Professionals form the foundation of the Bread Alone team model, and Managers are responsible for their success.

    Managers actively troubleshoot and communicate with other department Managers about any issues that arise during their shifts. They hold themselves and their teams accountable for output, efficiency, safety, and conduct, addressing all product, equipment, and personnel issues according to company policy.

    Managers take ownership of their departments and embody the work ethic, curiosity, determination, honesty, and humility at the heart of Bread Alone’s management principles. They lead with consent, build consensus, and never use coercion.

    This role reports to the Director of Production.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    Each Production Manager oversees four production shifts. The following duties apply across all shifts, with expectations adjusted by experience and expertise.

    • Operational Excellence & Production Oversight
    • Drive operational excellence by ensuring your department runs safely, efficiently, and with consistently high quality.
    • Lead efforts to minimize waste and maximize throughput, ensuring all products meet Bread Alone quality standards.
    • Ensure supervisors and team members complete their tasks accurately, completely, and on time.
    • Communicate promptly about production delays, quality concerns, or cross-department issues that could affect efficiency, compliance, or operational excellence.
    • Maintain knowledge of ingredient and packaging specifications and monitor proactively for deviations.
    • Work with the management team to track quality, efficiency, improve communication, and reduce waste.

    Team Management & Staffing

    • From the established production schedule, anticipate and resolve staffing gaps or call-outs promptly, coordinating with other Production Managers as needed to maintain continuous and efficient operations.
    • Accurately review and approve timesheets, ensuring timely and accurate payroll.
    • Address interpersonal issues promptly and seek support when needed.
    • Support hiring decisions by facilitating trials and assessing candidate fit.

    Training & Skill Development

    • Lead hands-on training and development of team members in collaboration with supervisors to ensure consistent process adherence.
    • Collaborate with the Bread Quality Manager to integrate current standards into all training materials.
    • Develop a working knowledge of Bread Alone bread recipes and baking techniques to make adjustments required by variable weather and ingredient conditions.

    Equipment & System Expertise

    • Document and report any maintenance issues beyond your training or responsibility.
    • Develop and continually expand your knowledge of all physical, mechanical, and technological systems and production equipment used in your department.

     Safety, Compliance, and Shift Handoffs

    • Clearly communicate and uphold all people's safety and food safety standards.
    • Maintain strong working knowledge of the Bread Alone Food Safety Program.
    • Maintain accurate shift logs and communicate key updates (shift hand-off) with the next Production Manager to support smooth production and minimal disruption.

    Job Requirements:

    • Commitment to teamwork, respect, and continuous improvement.
    • Standard working hours: 40 to 50 hours per week with a dynamic schedule based on the needs of the department and need to collaborate with other company leaders. This includes day, evening, overnight, and weekend hours as needed
    • Able to stand for long periods of time while executing tasks quickly and accurately
    • Able to to work in a physically demanding fast-paced environment
    • Able to tolerate exposure to high levels of heat and cold
    • Able to twist and bend repeatedly for long periods of time
    • Able to pull, push, move and lift to waist level
    • Able to carry awkward and shifting weights up to 50 pounds in a safe and controlled manner
    • Able to work with, handle, operate, and control hot equipment and products in a safe manner according to Bread Alone guidelines
    • Willing to strictly adhere to and enforce all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), including professional standards for personal attire, hygiene, and accessories.
    • Respect for and comfort with a diverse and inclusive workplace
    • Able and willing to use personal protective equipment (PPE) and assigned uniform as required per company policy
    • Able to gain proficiency in operating and instructing on the proper use of all systems(physical and technological) in use in your department
    • Willing to follow all safety guidelines set out by Bread Alone
    • Willing to take responsibility for your own and others safety by strictly enforcing all safety rules and regulations and taking steps to mitigate any unsafe conditions or practices enlisting the help of others as needed
    • The Bakery is open 365 days a year and team members must be willing to work consistently throughout the year which includes holidays and weekends

    Succession plan

    This position is backed up based on tasks by the other Production Managers and/or Director of Production. 

    Job Type: Full-time, exempt

    Compensation: $60,500 to $92,000 annually

    • Wellness Time: During the first year of employment wellness time for hourly employees is accrued at 1 hour per 30 hours worked totaling a yearly amount of 56 hours. For salaried managers, the time is front-loaded upon hire date. Unused time is paid out on the employee’s one year anniversary.
