    Zingerman’s Bakehouse is looking for a skilled bread baker and production manager who is interested in a leadership role in our nationally known artisanal bakery. Join our management team to do innovative work with regional grains and our own mill. We are a team of 25 bakers dedicated to making thousands of full flavored beautiful loaves of bread everyday.

    What does the job pay?

    Starting pay is $45,000-$50,000 with eligibility for a bonus plan, based on business performance.

    What are the requirements for this job?

    Availability:

    • Full-time, salaried: average 45 hours per week, with hours primarily between 8 am - 6 pm
    • Weekend availability required (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
    • Holiday availability required. We close only on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. Full availability in November and December (We don't take any extra time off during these months.)

    Performance Expectations - Essential Functions: 

    • Manage the production floor with above average proficiency in all trained roles
    • Assist with hiring and training new staff
    • Give constructive oral and written performance-based feedback
    • Assist with staff development
    • Assist with managing labor and food cost 
    • Assist with measurable and consistent improvements in food quality
    • Lead departmental huddles (meetings)
    • Proficient with spreadsheet files  
    • Attend and participate in weekly bread leader meeting and bi-monthly bakehouse manager meeting
    • Actively participates in all aspects of production:
      • Mixing dough
      • Hand-shaping dough
      • Proper proofing of breads
      • Loading and unloading the ovens
    • Works with staff and personal physical safety in mind
    • Dedicated to following all food safety rules and good manufacturing practices
    • Completes basic orientation training within 90 days of hire, manager training within 1 year of hire
    • Attends and participates in Zingerman's events and activities
    • Actively engages all staff daily  
    • Model & teach direct communication
    • Is a model of great service
    • Make production-related decisions
    • Constantly strive to help assure the highest bread quality imaginable
    • Work on business and department annual goals

    Physical Requirements:

    • Must be able to lift 50 pounds repeatedly during shift
    • Must stand, lift and bend for duration of shift
    • Must be comfortable with repetitive motion
    • Must be able to work in a hot and humid environment (82-90 degrees)
